THE CANADIAN UNION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES (CUPE) IS CANADA’S LARGEST HEALTH CARE UNION.
CUPE Local 5439 is a Health Care Local apart of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
Local 5439 represents approximately 120 health care workers at Hillcrest Reactivations Centre, including, among others, the job categories of registered practical nurse, personal support workers, physical therapy assistants, etc…
As a full service union, our elected leaders also work with the employer to resolve problems in the workplace. All CUPE members work under the protection of a contract called a Collective Agreement. Your local bargains the terms of the agreement on your behalf.
Because CUPE is your union, you have the opportunity to voice your questions and concerns about your work, your future and ways to improve the workplace and our community. In order to do so we encourage you to attend Membership Meetings. Membership Meetings are where you use your democratic right to help make important decisions for the local. It is where we exchange information, debate issues and make decisions that affect all of us! In sharing our challenges, coming up with solutions and working together as one strong united voice, we are able to use our collective strength to ensure, better working conditions!
